Please join us for the third annual Shalom Summer extravaganza, an afternoon filled with everything we love – summer, joyous music and community. Rain or shine, this celebration happens on June 22 from 2:30 to 5:30, at the Kaiserman JCC (45 Haverford Road, Wynnewood PA).
Shalom Summer is a gathering for all ages, and this year we are featuring the joy of Klezmer music (often described as Yiddish or Jewish jazz) as well as lawn games and family-friendly activities. Delicious snacks, including beer, ice cream, and pretzels will be available for purchase. Doors open at 2:30, with an open jam session at 3pm led by none other than Hankus Netsky and the Klezmer All Stars. Bring your instrument and join in; sheet music will be available to download for the tunes we will be learning,
The KlezJam will be followed by a full concert that will have you dancing, clapping, and smiling into the evening.
The band features an extraordinary lineup of world-renowned musicians led by Hankus Netsky on piano, accordion and saxophone. Hankus is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and ethnomusicologist. He is co-chair of the Contemporary Musical Arts Department at the New England Conservatory and founder and director of the internationally acclaimed Klezmer Conservatory Band. Dr. Netsky has composed extensively for film, theater, and television and collaborated with artists such as Itzhak Perlman, Robin Williams, Joel Grey, Theodore Bikel, and Robert Brustein. He is a Member Artist of the Silkroad Ensemble (founded by Yo-Yo Ma).
Hankus will be joined by Grant Smith on drums and percussion, Eden MacAdam-Somer on violin and vocals, Itay Dayan on clarinet, Susan Hoffman Watts on trumpet, Steve Beskrone on bass, and Dan Blacksberg on trombone.
This is a free event, and we welcome everyone to attend. If you're able, we encourage a donation of $36, but most importantly, we want cost to never be a barrier. Pay what you can and come celebrate with us. We can’t wait to share it with you.
