Gail Wagner and Guests: Spinoffs
Spinoffs is an exhibition of art influenced by textiles. From French tapestries to Japanese Ikat, Blackwork embroidery to Italian damask, Chinese grass-cloth to Ukrainian folk fabric, fiber from around the world serves as muse, sometimes with a shout and sometimes with a whisper. Paintings, digital art, and pyrography reference our collective consciousness of textile history in visual form. An appreciation of fiber and its offshoots unite the works in this eclectic showcase of styles.
Jennifer Pettus: S{t}imulation
The work in S{t}imulation continues my exploration of labor, function, and materiality in an increasingly disconnected and overwhelming world. The rapid proliferation of AI shortcuts, where there is no manual skill required, is disheartening - and means putting hands to material is even more vital to my process. Whether it is a pen, a paintbrush, or a needle and thread, I am marking my journey, with all its human imperfections. I embellish non-traditional materials with riotous texture and color to challenge institutionalized art practices, but also to invite reflection on the ways we are literally losing touch with our environments.
