Join us for a public talk with artist Dan Friday, who is currently featured in the exhibition Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass. Learn how Friday fuses the traditions of his Lummi (Coast Salish) heritage with his contemporary approaches to glass art. To Friday, “Glass is a medium that will survive millennia, and a great way to tell a story to future generations. It is, metaphorically, a contemporary painting on the cave wall.”
*Please note: Museum lectures will take place in Gallery 105 during the renovation of the lower level.
About the Artist:
Dan Friday is a glass artist and instructor based in Seattle. He is a member of the Lummi Nation. Friday has taught at the Pilchuck Glass School, University of Washington, and the Haystack Craft Center, and has had residencies at the Museum of Glass, the Burke Museum, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Dream Community in Taipei, Taiwan. In his glass work, Friday has collaborated with many artists, including Lillian Pitt, Preston Singletary, Dale Chihuly, and Paul Marioni. He is represented by Blue Rain Gallery (Santa Fe), Stonington Gallery (Seattle), Ainsley Gallery (Toronto), Habatat Galleries (West Palm Beach, FL), Schantz Galleries (Stockbridge, MA), and his work can be found in collections around the world.
