From Pen to Portal: Writing Strong College Application Essays
Every strong college application starts with an essay that sounds like you. In “From Pen to Portal: Writing Strong College Application Essays,” a 4-session workshop for high school seniors and college transfer students, long-time LPC English professor Heidii McMichael will help you tackle the UC PIQs and the Common App essay with confidence and voice. You’ll walk away with a polished essay ready to submit, and we’ll also cover brag sheets, supplemental essays, scholarship statements, and how to make every part of your application tell your story. The workshop meets September 3, 10, 17, and 24, 2026, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at LPC in room 21107. The cost is $79 for four classes plus one free, optional Zoom edit session. (Workshop is not for college credit.) LPC students can also follow up in the RAW Center for more help on their application essays.
