Free@3 Presents: Il Duo Lyrico
This Sunday we welcome Nancy Steltmann, cellist, and Robert Byrens, pianist, to our stage as Il Duo Lyrico. They will be performing works by Dvorak, Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann, culminating with the sonata in C Major by Haydn. This work was originally composed for violin and double bass, but has been adapted for cello, and as with Haydn compositions, will be a rich, melodious work in three movements.
Nancy Steltmann is an acclaimed cellist. Serving as the principal cello player for the Grand Rapids Symphony until her retirement in 2011, Ms. Steltmann has continued to perform for select audiences and we are delighted to have her return to our series. She is Juilliard educated and has received high praise from many music critics, and partnered with Robert Byrens in 2016 to form this delightful duo.
Robert Byrens is a highly sought-after collaborative pianist and vocal coach from Grand Rapids. He was music faculty at GVSU for thirty years and has played for the likes of Dalton Baldwin, Phyllis Curtin, Elly Ameling, Gerard Souzay, Jessye Norman, Martin Katz, and Robert Spillman to name a few. As a professional violist, he has been a member of the Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, South Bend, and Battle Creek Symphonies. He has performed in summer festivals at the Blossom Music Center, Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute, Fontana Chamber Arts, Garth Newel and the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck where he was Associate Artistic Director and performer from 1993 through 2008.
