Erica Priscilla Sandoval, LCSW, a renowned speaker and author, will be exploring the personal narrative of Arlys Tineo, LMSW, SIFI from Vol. III of Latinx/e in Social Work®, and will be engaging with participants in a lively discussion.
WEBINAR SUMMARY
In Latinx/e in Social Work Vol. III, Arlys Tineo, LMSW, SIFI shares her story with language access and growing up as first-generation Dominican-American. Her experiences translating for her family as a child spurred her passion for improved language access, and now as a bilingual social worker, she sees similar injustices and gaps in service playing out in the workplace.
In this webinar, we will discuss barriers to language access and the effects this has on clients, families, and clinicians. Blending personal experiences and professional practice, we will explore how microaggressions, emotional triggers, and professional burnout all play a role in a lack of translation and interpretation services. We will then explore strategies for language access in social work, providing actionable ways to advocate for a more equitable practice. The session will close out with a group discussion and Q&A.
