Lake has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Washington Mustangs at 7p. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lake walked away with it. They blew past Payson, posting a 45-6 win at home.
Lake found their leader in underclassman Nate Dahle, who threw for 189 yards and four touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Carson Cox also helped out with an impressive 80 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Washington came tearing into Friday's game with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on Desert Hills with a sharp 41-16 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Washington just coasted through the last quarter.
McCord Christiansen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 174 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Christiansen's longest rush was for an incredible 85 yards. Another player making a difference was Steele Barben, who threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt.
Lake's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Pine View and 1-9 Riverton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 42.7% over those games). As for Washington, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as the two teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Lake commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 4.8 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've been even better at 6.8 per game. Lake ended up a good deal behind Washington in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, losing 27-13. Can Lake avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
