Free Historical Program “Remembering the Ladies” at Cumberland County Library on November 4

On Saturday, November 4, from 2pm to 3:30pm, Cumberland County Library will host a free historical program, "Remembering the Ladies: From Patriots in Petticoats to Presidential Candidates." Author, scholar, and storyteller Carol Simon Levin portrays “Founding Mother” Abigail Adams, who famously wrote to her husband John asking that the Continental Congress “remember the ladies” when drafting new laws for the new nation. He wrote back that she was “so saucy,” but he and the rest of the Congress then ignored her pleas completely. “Abigail” then looks forward in time to tell the stories of some of the courageous and tenacious American women of all colors and creeds who fought for the rights and freedoms of all women everywhere. Funding has been made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State and the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners through the Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission. Cumberland County Library is located at 800 East Commerce Street in Bridgeton, NJ, 08302. For more information about this free program, please call (856) 453-2210 x.26103, or email [email protected].
