A major figure in Wisconsin art, Fred Stonehouse is nationally recognized for his intellectually layered work and the sharp wit that runs throughout it. Drawing inspiration from outsider art and folk traditions, Stonehouse creates paintings populated by fantastical hybrid figures and intricately rendered self-portraits. Stonehouse holds a B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, and he has enjoyed many museum exhibitions, including a career retrospective at the Museum of Wisconsin Art.
