Framing the Forum on Women: A Conversation with Local Groups Who Pioneered

Join representatives from five historic local women's clubs and organizations headquartered in historic buildings. The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, The Cosmopolitan Club, The Plastic Club, and New Century Trust were all founded in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, dedicated to preserving pieces of women's history. The American Women's Heritage Society was founded more recently, in 1986, as the only African-American Women's organization to administer an historic mansion in Fairmount Park, built in the 17th century. This discussion will explore the impetus and context for each organization's birth as well as their challenges, changes, and roles in shaping women's life in Philadelphia.
