Folklore Peruano showcases the works of Peruvian artists who capture the essence of their homeland through representations of traditional, indigenous imagery and evocative landscapes. This exhibition celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Peru, drawing inspiration from ancient civilizations like the Inca, traditional folklore, as well as the diverse landscapes of the Andes and Amazon.
Through their exploration of themes such as the interconnection between humanity and nature, these artists engage with ancestral traditions and cultural legacies passed down through generations. The works in this exhibition reflect on a spiritual connection to nature, community, and ancestral wisdom, offering a powerful tribute to the enduring spirit of Peru's cultural legacy.
Folklore Peruano is curated by Carol Hayman, who was the Chair of the Austin Lima Sister Cities committee for 10 years. During that time she curated, with the other members of the committee, about a dozen exhibitions of both Peruvian and Texas art works in Lima and Austin. The mission was Art Across the Americas, with the idea that it is difficult for people to cross borders, but their art can travel and be seen by many people.
Opening reception: Thursday, February 20, 6-8pm
