Folk Musician Joe Jencks in Concert At the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club.
The Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club will present folk musician Joe Jencks in concert, April 8, 8 p.m. at the Fair Lawn Community Center, 10-10 20th Street, Fair Lawn, NJ. Tickets are $20 each from www.hurdygurdyfolk.org. or $23 at the door (cash or check only.)
Joe Jencks is an award-winning songwriter, a celebrated vocalist and a 25-year veteran of the international folk scene. His music blends his Irish roots and working-class upbringing with conservatory training. The result: musical narratives filled with heart, soul, groove and grit, blended with his lyric baritone, well-crafted instrumentals and vivid songwriting.
Joe has enthralled audiences at festivals like Falcon Ridge, Kerrville, Mariposa and Old Songs and at venues like Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall with his approachable style and depth of musical knowledge. A co-founder of the harmony trio Brother Sun, Joe has written several number one folksongs, including the ever relevant “Lady of the Harbor.” In August 2022, he released his 17th recording, “The Coming of the Years,” an album that stands firmly in the modern Celtic tradition. Centered around songs he wrote while on tour in Ireland over a 12-year period, this album is quintessentially Joe, a synergistic blend of past and present with themes of immigration and multiple generations.

The Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club has been bringing the best of folk music to Northeastern New Jersey since 1981. This year marks its 15th anniversary of presenting concerts, co-sponsored by the Borough of Fair Lawn, at the Fair Lawn Community Center. The Center features theater-style seating, a state of the art sound system and professional lighting. On Sat. May 6, the Club will present a concert by folk singer and songwriter. Abbie Gardner.
