First Fridays: Open Studios & Programming
Since 2016, Tulsa Artist Fellowship has hosted First Fridays, a free monthly series celebrating current Fellows, alumni, and the Tulsa community. Visitors are invited to explore artist studios, exhibitions, installations, performances, and conversations throughout our studios, roof terrace, and galleries.
This September, experience Tatyana Fazlalizadeh’s Untitled during a special one-week extension, welcome the return of Cherokee Art Market, revisit Alicia Smith’s The Spider Women following the filming of Toci Chapter 3, celebrate the work of Tulsa Girls Art School with a live DJ set from Hot Toast Music Company, and visit open studios with Tulsa Artist Fellows throughout the evening.
Projection Public Art Series: Untitled by Tatyana Fazlalizadeh | Studios Façade
September’s First Friday offers a special opportunity to experience Untitled during an extended final weekend of the inaugural installation of Projection, the rotating public art series conceived, curated, and directed by Tulsa Artist Fellow Tatyana Fazlalizadeh.
Installed across the Studios façade, the large-scale wheat-paste work features a 1968 photograph of three Black women in Oklahoma set against a partially obscured American flag. Untitled reflects Fazlalizadeh’s ongoing exploration of history, visibility, and public space, transforming the building itself into a site for contemporary image-making and public engagement.
7 PM | Artist Talk: Tatyana Fazlalizadeh
Gather at the Projection wall for a brief artist talk with Tatyana Fazlalizadeh during the final weekend of Untitled. Fazlalizadeh will reflect on the inaugural installation and the evolving public art series while looking ahead to the next iteration of Projection, featuring Tulsa Artist Fellow Adam Davis and opening later this September.
Cherokee Art Market Returns | Studios
Cherokee Art Market returns to Tulsa Artist Fellowship for First Fridays on September 4 and October 2, featuring artists and hands-on activities ahead of the annual Cherokee Art Market, October 9–11.
Tulsa Girls Art School Exhibition | Studios
Celebrate the creative work developed through Tulsa Girls Art School in partnership with Tulsa Artist Fellowship. The exhibition features artwork created during teaching artist residencies led by Tulsa Artist Fellow Myiesha Gordon Beales and former Fellows Natani Notah and Richard Zimmerman.
Explore the exhibition and Fellow studios while enjoying a live DJ set from Hot Toast Music Company throughout the evening.
Alicia Smith: The Spider Women | Flagship
Following the filming of Toci Chapter 3: The Spider Women, Tulsa Artist Fellow Alicia Smith invites visitors to experience the immersive sculptural environment that became the world of her newest film.
Toci tells the story of a group of Aztec women who escape colonization by flying a pyramid to Mars. At the center of the installation is an architectural form that functions simultaneously as a wormhole, a loom, and a cosmic spider web—interweaving ancestral knowledge, Indigenous cosmology, and speculative interstellar travel.
Join Smith at Flagship for an extended opportunity to engage with the installation and the evolving world of The Spider Women following its transformation from sculptural environment to film set.
Complimentary refreshments from Que Gusto, Heirloom Rustic Ales, and Mood Brü will be available throughout the evening.

Both locations are wheelchair- and stroller-accessible, with flexible seating and family-scale private washrooms with changing tables. The Studios are accessible by elevator from the main west entrance on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Street parking is available through ParkMobile and is free after 5 PM and on weekends.
