Start the new year off on the right foot with your family and friends. Timucuan Parks Foundation and Florida State Parks are partnering up for a First Day Hike on January 1 at Little Talbot Island State Park at 12157 Heckscher Drive. Participants should meet at Pavilion One in the first beach parking lot by 9 a.m. Please plan to arrive 30 minutes early as this is a very popular event, and you will want to allow time to pay the entrance fee, park, and prepare for the hike. The cost is $4 for a single occupancy vehicle, $5 per vehicle for up to eight people and $2 per bike or pedestrian.
Participants can enjoy a ranger-led hike along the Dune Ridge Trail, one of Florida’s premier nature trails at the state park. This trail meanders for two miles atop an ancient dune ridge under a canopy of live oaks, cedars and sabal palms in a lush maritime hammock. The hike continues with a two-mile walk along Little Talbot Island’s picturesque beach, bringing you back to the parking area.
Please wear comfortable closed-toed shoes and layered clothing, and bring water, snacks and sunscreen. For more information, contact Timucuan Parks Foundation at [email protected].
