Film Preview and Discussion: The Uncondemned

In this courtroom thriller, courageous survivors of Rwanda's genocide bravely come forward to seek justice in the first case that established sexual violence as a crime of genocide. A group of young, inexperienced lawyers and activists fought for the first prosecution of rape as a crime of genocide. At the center of their case were three Rwandan women who braved witness assassinations to testify, in hopes that by speaking out they would help all victims of rape used as a weapon of war.

A panel discussion following the screening will explore the legacy of the Rwandan tribunal’s decision and the ongoing challenge to hold perpetrators accountable. The discussion will be live streamed at ushmm.org/watch at approximately 8:45 p.m. EDT.
