Feller School Open House with WI Volleyball Libero Lola Schumacher
Feller School Open House hosts Wisconsin Volleyball Player with Dyslexia. Feller School for Dyslexia is hosting an Open House on Sunday, January 26th from 10:00 a.m. until 12 p.m. at 5405 Flad Ave., Madison, WI, 53711. The open house will feature a guest speaker, Lola Schumacher, Wisconsin Volleyball Libero, navigating being a student athlete with a dyslexia diagnosis. Schumacher will be interviewed by Sarah Carlson of News 3 Now/Channel 3000, regarding how she championed her dyslexia on and off the court. While Schumacher has to work harder and longer hours to learn, she is achieving success in academics and athletics. There will be photo and autograph opportunities with Schumacher and Carlson, following her interview at 10:30 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear Badger gear to show support for Wisconsin Volleyball and to bring memorabilia they want signed. Schumacher was recognized with Big Ten All-Freshman team honors this past season. Feller School is the first Kindergarten through fifth grade, full-day elementary school in Wisconsin focused on dyslexia. Classroom sizes are small, with a max of 12 students per classroom. This allows for a better teacher to student ratio and focused attention. Feller is located within the St. Maria Goretti School, leasing classroom spaces and sharing facility and student services, including: gym, art, music, cafeteria, library and playground. It is a school-within-a-school that began in the Fall of 2023 and is proving to be a beneficial pairing for both schools. Feller School helps parents navigate the challenges of a child with reading difficulties and aligns them with support and offers a proven teaching curriculum different from public schools. Attendees will learn about Feller School’s effective reading, writing and spelling approaches, dubbed the Feller Advantage. One in five students have dyslexia, but it often goes undiagnosed. Feller teaches a structured literacy curriculum, which includes a focus on phonics, decoding words and fluency. To learn more about this event and more see www.fellerschool.org.
