"Feeling Big & Being Small" Landscape Art Groupshow Reception (with live music & poetry readings)

The Opening Reception Party for this Landscape Artshow is free & open to the public. There will be free drinks provided by our sponsors, lots of gorgeous art, live poetry readings, and performances of ambient music. The venue is wheelchair accessible and will have an onsite air purification unit provided by CleanTheAirATX. We are located southwest, in Beecave, which is only a short 30 minute drive that allows you to daytrip into the lovely Texas Hillcountry. Our venue is a storefront in the Galleria shopping center and so while parking is abundant, it will likely not be right next to our entrance. ContraCommon Art Gallery is an artist-run non-profit space that hosts frequent public workshops, free meetup groups, and private onsite artist studios. This specific exhibition is an amazing showcase of both established and emerging local artists, reflecting upon the genre of contemporary Landscapes, with a solid mix of stylistic approaches such as expressionism, realism, fauvism, abstraction, and more! If you are unable to attend the opening party not to worry-- this exhibition will remain open until February 27th. ContraCommon Gallery's visitation hours are open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12-6, or by appointment. (12912 Hill Country Blvd, BeeCave, TX) --- "Feeling Big & Being Small" is a group show which explores differing approaches to the making of contemporary Landscape art. It encourages viewers to reflect upon how diversity in image-creation lends credit to the power of individual introspection, which both contrasts and illuminates the feelings of smallness imparted by vast interconnected landscapes. In the current era, during which human affect on the natural world is not only regularly acknowledged but feared, the grief of the past and present needs to be countered by a hopefulness for the present and future. A person is not so small that loneliness would be a vacuum and not so large that they cannot help watching where they step. A method towards building collective consciousness (to counter environmental individualism) must understand that accountability means grieving, a process which requires personal introspection, and therefore leads us towards greater interconnection. This group show, titled "Feeling Big & Being Small", focuses on approaches to the Landscape genre which highlights the assorted introspective qualities of daydreaming, automatism, situational emotion, temporal materiality, plein air meditations, and reimagined geographies. The exhibition displays artwork with the curatorial assertion that self-insertion (AKA the hand of the artist) is the future of the landscape genre–allowing both the artist and the viewer to reflect upon a world in which their own unique interpretations are pivotal to impacting the Earth we live within. https://www.contracommon.org/upcomingevents/2025/01/30/feeling-big-being-small
