Family Day at McColl Center

During this month's Family Day, we're celebrating 25 years of McColl Center by creating art based on some of our alumni Artist-in-Resident's. Soundsuit Silhouette's: Nick Cave creates dazzling wearable artworks called Soundsuits! These vibrant creations, made from materials like beads, feathers, and recycled objects, blend art and performance. In this activity, you’ll design your own Soundsuit silhouette using a mix of found materials and art supplies. Light Painting Suncatchers: Liz Nielsen’s artwork, often called "light paintings," glows with vibrant, radiant colors. Liz creates her pieces in a darkroom, shining light onto special paper and using traditional photo-developing methods. In this activity, you’ll craft your own Liz Nielsen-inspired suncatcher to hang in your window at home! Cosmic Geometry: Inspired by human spirituality, Carlos Estevez creates captivating works that include paintings, drawings, and sculptures. His art features intricate geometric shapes and lines, which he calls "cosmic geometry." In this activity, you’ll create your own cosmic geometric masterpiece inspired by Carlos Estevez! Portrait Painting: Inspired by Mitchell Kearney’s stunning photography of McColl Center’s Artists in Residence from 1999 to 2008, this activity invites you to paint a portrait that tells a story. Use color, expression, and your unique style to create a piece as vivid and engaging as Kearney’s photographs! Presented by Atrium Health and generously underwritten by the Ingrid + John Amols Scholarship Fund.
