Fairfax Ballet Company's "Enchanted Garden" Ballet
Come see why ballet is indeed still relevant-- right here in Fairfax County! The Fairfax Ballet Company (FBC) presents "Enchanted Garden," inspired by the magic of The Firebird, an enchanting one-act ballet set to the thrilling music of Igor Stravinsky. Show times are 4:00 pm on both May 16 and May 17 at Woodson High School, Fairfax, Va.
Principal dancers include Lauren Wienke (a senior at Chantilly High School), who portrays The Bird, and Melody Namvar (a junior at Chantilly High School), who dances the part of the Princess.
Principal dancer Melody Namvar said, "This role has been inspiring and challenging because it has encouraged me to push myself and my boundaries as a dancer. I hope to share my joy of dance with the audience by telling the princess' story beautifully and gracefully."
Other Soloists are: Patricia Pobst as the Wasp (Westfield High School student), Clara Rainhart as the Sorceress (Oakton High School student), and Sara Kelsi as the Lizard (Chantilly High School student).
Ballet is storytelling without words, but here is a brief synopsis of the ballet. When Prince Ivan wanders into a mysterious enchanted garden, he encounters the dazzling Firebird and discovers a group of princesses held captive by the wicked sorcerer Kashchei. With courage and a little magic, he sets out to break the spell and restore peace to the kingdom. This colorful fairy-tale ballet is a delight for audiences of all ages.
The program also features Company Works including Preludium, choreographed by Andrea Cook, Artistic Director of the Fairfax Ballet; excerpts from Raymonda, choreographed by Hannah Locke; and Letting Go, choreographed by Connie Dinapoli.

The Fairfax Ballet Company is a nonprofit performing arts organization based in Chantilly, Va. All Fairfax Ballet Company dancers are currently enrolled in classes and train at the Russell School of Ballet.
