Fair Trial/Free Press Conference
A panel of experts from the media, courts, and legal profession will explore this question during the upcoming Fair Trial/Free Press Conference at 6:00 p.m. on May 29 at the New York State Judicial Institute at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University.
The program, “Defamation Law and the Theoretical Dismantling of New York Times v. Sullivan,” will examine a fictional scenario involving a former elected official and the newspaper he sues for publishing an investigative report accusing him of committing domestic violence during his time in office several months after a hypothetical U.S. Supreme Court decision pruned back significant elements of a landmark case protecting the press from defamation claims.
The interactive discussion will be facilitated by the Honorable Albert Rosenblatt (ret.), former Associate Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals, and Rex Smith, co-host of The Media Project on WAMC and former editor of the Times Union.

This free event is open to the public, will be livestreamed, and includes continuing legal education credit for attorneys who attend in person. Registration is required because space is limited.
