Experience the Model Matzah Bakery – A Hands-On Passover Adventure!
Put on Your Chef Hat & Become a Matzah Baker! 👩🍳
Every child will get their very own chef hat as they step into the role of a real matzah baker! From grinding the wheat to rolling the dough, they’ll experience what it’s like to bake matzah just like in the times of our ancestors. With their hats on and rolling pins in hand, they’ll race against the clock to get their matzah out of the oven before time runs out—just like the Israelites did when leaving Egypt!
What’s in Store?
We will go through the entire process of making Shmurah Matzah—just like it’s been done for generations:
🌾 Step 1: The Wheat – We’ll start with raw wheat stalks and learn how they must be carefully watched from the moment they’re harvested. Why? Because if they get wet before we start making the dough, they could become chametz (leavened), and we need our matzah to be completely unleavened—just like the first matzot baked when the Jews left Egypt!
🥣 Step 2: Milling the Flour – We’ll grind the wheat into fine flour, just as it was done in ancient times. Every grain is special because it’s part of our mission to bake matzah that’s 100% pure!
💦 Step 3: Water Time! – Now that we have our flour, we’ll carefully add water—watching every step not to make it wet beforehand to make sure everything is just right.
🚨 Step 4: The Countdown Begins! – The moment water and flour mix, we’re on the clock! We have only 18 minutes to knead, roll, and shape our matzah. It must go into the oven. Run, run, run—just like the Israelites had to rush out of Egypt before their dough could rise!
🔥 Step 5: Out of the Oven – Finally, we’ll get our matzah and see the delicious results of our hard work!
What is Shmurah Matzah?
The matzah we are making is called Shmurah Matzah—which means “guarded matzah.” This means it has been carefully watched from the moment the wheat was harvested to make sure it never came into contact with water before the baking process. This extra level of care makes it the purest form of matzah, just like the kind our ancestors ate when they hurried out of Egypt!
