ENGINEERING FEST 2024: BUILDING TALL
As downtowns continue to change and reinvent, our iconic jewels remain staples in the skyline. The theme for this year’s festival is “Building Tall,” and we're welcoming an exciting new partner, Willis Tower. CAC invites Engineering Fest participants to learn about Chicago’s unique architecture and engineering and to design and test out engineering solutions. Activities are geared toward youth ages 8-12, but the whole family is welcome to join!
Join us as we explore engineering through interactive stations and activities, including:
Family Walking Tour — Take a quick tour around the building and learn about the systems that help people move about the city. Stops include Chicago’s tallest building, bridges, trains and more!
Photo Booth — Say "cheese" at our themed photo booth!
Create Your Own El Train — Did you know that each CTA car weighs 57,000 pounds? And that’s empty, with no riders! Learn about the strong structures that hold elevated trains and create your own.
City Planning Challenge — Explore urban design with expert guidance to craft your own cityscape! Let professionals help you strategically design skyscrapers, plan transportation, and create inviting public spaces.
Ask an Expert Station — participants will receive feedback on their designs from experts in the field and learn about the variety of careers that help a city stay on the move.
