Elizabeth Keckley, formerly enslaved, sewed dresses for wealthy women in St. Louis who loaned her money to purchase her freedom. Within a few years Keckley was employed by President Lincoln's wife as her seamstress but also became her close confidante. Living history performer Kathryn Harris uses Keckley's autobiography to present a first-person interpretation.
The program is offered at 11 am and 2 pm.
It is presented as part of Women’s History Month and in conjunction with the park's new exhibit, "Slavery in St. Louis," on display through September 4, 2023.
