In 1859, Britain and the US almost went to war for the third time over an island 1/3 the size of the Isle of Wight. It was 2,500 miles away from Washington D.C. and 5,000 miles away from London, tucked away on the Pacific frontier of the Salish Sea. This was called the Pig War -- and neither the president nor prime minister nor Queen Victoria herself knew what the heck was going on.

Or at least tries to -- if she can go long enough without being distracted by history's silliest almost-war to get through it all.
