Parent Education: Practical Strategies to Support Continued Literacy Achievement and Growth Date: June 3, 2024 Time: 6:30 PM Location: Benigna Auditorium, Historic Downtown Campus Who: Parents and guardians with students in preschool-grade 2 During our Early Literacy Night, Dr. Vanderbeck, Assistant Director of the Historic Downtown Campus, and Mrs. Terry, Third Grade Teacher, will delve into the philosophy behind fostering early literacy skills as well as emphasizing the foundational importance of the parental role in supporting your child's journey to reading. Participants will explore the fundamentals of reading and the brain, understanding how phonological and phonemic awareness activities lay the groundwork for reading success. They will learn practical techniques to not only facilitate their child's letter sound mastery but also contribute to overall reading development. Additionally, they will grasp the significance of letter formation practice in strengthening handwriting fluency, thereby enhancing reading proficiency. The evening will underscore the essential role of practical and multisensory approaches demonstrating how such techniques not only improve letter recognition but also cultivate a deeper understanding of language, paving the way for lifelong literacy skills.
