Dragon Inn

Every major Chinese director seems to make at least one wuxia, something of the Chinese equivalent to the American Western or the Japanese samurai film, in their career. Wong Kar Wai made Ashes of Time, Hou Hsiao-hsien made The Assassin, Ang Lee made Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The genre’s original cinematic master is Taiwan’s King Hu, whose wuxias Come Drink with Me and A Touch of Zen have both played at the Webster Film Series in the past few years. His game-changer, though, was 1967’s Dragon Inn, which finds rival political factions and other interested parties congregating at the Dragon Gate Inn, where the plan is to kill the exiled children of a recently-beheaded general. In Mandarin with English subtitles. Unless otherwise noted, admission is: $8 for the general public$7 for seniors, Webster alumni and students from other schools$6 for Webster University staff and facultyFree for Webster students with proper ID. We offer general admission seating with payment of cash, check, or credit. Note: Last-minute changes may occur. The Winifred Moore Auditorium is the home of the Webster University Film Series. Originally used as a chapel, it now boasts the most comfortable theatre seats around. (Some of the original pews can be seen in the hallways of Webster Hall.) The auditorium seats 240. In addition to film screenings, the auditorium hosts jazz and classical concerts, Opera Studio performances, lectures, town hall meetings, and other university events. The Winifred Moore Auditorium is located at 470 E. Lockwood Ave.
