Downtown Tempe Authority Launches Rewards Program to "Discover Downtown: Sidewalk Summer"

Running from June 1 through August 2, the program turns everyday visits into opportunities to earn points, unlock rewards and enter to win weekly and grand prizes. Participants are encouraged to come and support the participating Downtown Tempe businesses, earn points for each visit and redeem their points for swag and entries into prize drawings. Throughout the campaign, Downtown Tempe Authority will award: • 8 winners per week through weekly prize drawings • 72 total winners over the course of the campaign • 2 grand prize winners at the end of the campaign In addition to prizes, participating businesses will offer exclusive summer discounts throughout the campaign, giving visitors even more reason to explore the district and support local merchants. Discover Downtown: Sidewalk Summer was created to support Downtown Tempe businesses during the final phase of the Tempe Refresh construction project, while giving visitors a simple and rewarding way to experience the district. The program encourages people to continue visiting downtown for everyday activities such as dining, shopping and socializing, while reinforcing that Downtown Tempe remains open, accessible and full of things to do. “The City of Tempe’s Downtown Refresh Project has been an important investment in the future of Downtown Tempe, and our businesses have been navigating construction since November 2024,” said Allyson Dykstra, Business Liaison for Downtown Tempe Authority. “Summer tends to bring fewer crowds, so this is a great time to show up, explore the district and support the businesses that keep downtown so vibrant.” To participate in the Discover Downtown: Sidewalk Summer rewards program, visitors can head to the Downtown Tempe Authority website to learn more about participating merchants, available offers and how the program works. By scanning campaign QR codes found on signage, ground stickers and other promotional materials throughout Downtown Tempe, participants can access the experience directly from their mobile browser while visiting participating businesses to collect points, unlock rewards and enter prize drawings. The website also provides helpful parking information, since during the final phase of the Tempe Refresh construction project, portions of Mill Avenue will be closed in sections and restricted to vehicle traffic. Sidewalks will remain open, and all businesses will continue operating as usual, so visitors are encouraged to park on surrounding streets or in nearby garages and walk into the district. Valley Metro Light Rail and Tempe Streetcar also offer easy access with stops just steps from Mill Avenue. Nestled along the shores of Tempe Town Lake, Downtown Tempe is a district like no other.
