The Pennfield School is thrilled to welcome Katherine Fairchild, Head of Engineering at the MIT Quest for Intelligence, to speak about the challenges and benefits surrounding AI.
Are AI, deep learning, and machine learning all the same thing? Should I be using ChatGPT? Should my kids? What’s a neural network and how much is it actually like the brain? Exactly how worried should I be about a robot taking my job… or taking over the world? If you’re feeling overwhelmed by — or just curious about! — the AI hype, this talk is for you. We’ll break down the buzzwords and discuss how AI affects our daily lives and choices. By the end, you might not have all the answers to Life, the Universe, and Everything, but you’ll have the confidence to explore AI further and make informed decisions about its use.
Katherine Fairchild is the Head of Engineering at the MIT Quest for Intelligence, where she leads teams of software engineers and research scientists developing computational models and software applications at the intersection of AI and neuroscience. Her position on AI is informed by a versatile background, including work in program management at Harvard University, machine learning for financial applications at State Street Corporation, and as a legal assistant. She holds a BA in Political Science from Dalhousie University and an MLA in Software Engineering from Harvard Extension School.
