Flintknapper is the Bay Area-based musical project of Spencer Adams and Jake Levy. Adams (vocals, guitar) and Levy (guitar) have been playing music together in various capacities since 2017, and began performing as Flintknapper in 2023. Their musical inspirations range from the witty lyricism of John Prine to the intimate guitar work of Acetone to the experimental sprawl of Jim O’Rourke. The result is a blend of indie rock, post-rock, ambient, and folk reminiscent of Wilco, Grouper, Dijon, Papa M, and Big Thief. Flintknapper was originally Adams’ solo project. He recorded and released the EP BLUSH (2019), and the LPs Crayon-Do Attitude (2020) and Knapsack (2022). Levy’s woozy synths were featured on the Knapsack track “Fog (Vista)” under the name of his solo music project, Adspace. Once both of them landed back in the Bay Area in early 2023, Adams and Levy formally and permanently joined forces for this current fleshed-out iteration of Flintknapper. A new album is currently being recorded, with hopes of a release in 2024.
