Superfluid, high-velocity transatlantic music and dance events co-created by Iklectik, Brookly Art Haus, and Skopetur.
Distance Anatomy is a networked dance and music performance event curated by Yewen Jin and Jeremy Cline of Skopetur featuring the most advanced high-speed transatlantic networking in the world; this is an experimental new approach to data transfer. Resulting in real-time audio and motion capture data that’s transmitted at rapid speed to allow dancers to move in time with live music played remotely. Performed across the ocean, the technology offers a plethora of applications beyond the arts.
Following the success of the first sold out test-event at IKLECTIK in December 2022, the project returns on August 11th 2023 in hybrid form in both London and New York. Hosted as part of the XOLO series in London and by Brooklyn Art House with dancers from New York City, dancers move in harmony with electronic artists using the bespoke AMOENUS ambisonic 4D surround sound system, which was designed as an education and exploration tool funded by the UK Arts Council.
The project was initially supported by Goldsmiths University’s Hybrid Live initiative. Since its formation in the middle of the pandemic in 2021, Hybrid Live, a research and technology project, has harnessed and transformed the ways in which we now connect with each other. Taking a transatlantic flight for a one-off performance is no longer considered sustainable and is often not affordable with shrinking arts budgets. Instead, Distance Anatomy invites you to discover pure catharsis at the intersection of technology, art, performance, and music, bringing performers and audiences together remotely across the globe through open source technology and audiovisual mastery. The formula is simple, yet powerful: an invisible thread that connects people in unimagined ways at the outermost limits of technology and fine art.
