Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. The DFL CD2 event will bring together community members, activists, leaders, and families from across the district to honor the history, culture, and contributions of Black Americans while reflecting on the ongoing pursuit of justice and equity.
This free, family-friendly event will include music, guest speakers, community resource tables, food, and cultural activities for all ages. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets to enjoy the festivities in the park.
“Juneteenth is a day of remembrance and celebration, and we are thrilled to host our district-wide event to mark this important holiday,” said James Hepworth, Chair of DFL CD2. “This celebration is about community, outreach, equity, education, and building a more inclusive future together,” said Janeen Dednam-Wright, Outreach and Inclusion Officer of CD2.
The event is open to the public, and all are welcome.
