Harry Houdini played Detroit 19 times between 1894 and 1926. While he also played hundreds of cities all over the world on his way to superstardom he will be forever linked to Detroit as it was the setting for both his final stage performance as well as his untimely death.
On the 100th anniversary of his death, Jeremy Dimick, DHS Director of Collections and Curatorial explores the circumstances of, and the public's reaction to his 19 appearances in Detroit and how these shows reflected the trajectory of his career as a whole.
