Dana Enders: Expressive Painting with Soft Pastel (2-Day workshop)

For Pastel Artists, “being Loose” refers to a more spontaneous and expressive approach to applying pastels, resulting in less detail and a more painterly, impressionistic style. Through discussions, demos and hands on painting, we will focus on expressive mark making, the use of underpainting techniques and pushing the use of color! Learn to use these key elements to strengthen your compositions and create more dynamic expressive paintings! Expect to produce a minimum of two paintings in the workshop. We will be using a combination of hard and soft pastels with a wet underpainting technique on sanded U-Art 400 paper. Supplies: A list will be provided to those who register To register, contact the instructor at [email protected] Held at Fort Myers Beach Art Association located in the Cypress Square shopping center, 13451 McGregor Boulevard, unit 1 FMBAA Member Cost: $ 250 Non-Member Cost: $ 260 Dana Enders artist statement: My intention as an artist is to capture life’s moments through the use of light and color. I accomplish this through plein air painting. I will always choose to paint on location opposed to in the studio. When painting outdoors, I experience light and color in a very unique way using all of my senses. I strive to paint only what I feel are the essential elements needed to capture the essence of a scene or moment in time. I find that summarizing the experience allows the person viewing the painting to complete the picture in their mind, bringing forth detail and life to the scene, as if they were actually there. That is where my passion for painting in plein air ignites! Giving life to a painting so that the viewer feels the sand beneath their toes, the warmth of the sun, and the smell of the warm gulf breeze.
