Dakota Spotlight: Call Me Shelly is the second documentary film from Regional Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Derek Fletcher and James Wolner. Based on the investigative reporting of the Dakota Spotlight podcast, the film explores the 1994 disappearance of 26-year-old Michele "Shelly" Julson from Bismarck, North Dakota.
On the morning of August 24, 1994, Shelly vanished after dropping off her young son. More than 30 years later, her disappearance remains unsolved. Through new interviews, archival materials, and original reporting, the documentary revisits the case while examining the lasting impact an unresolved disappearance can have on families, friends, and the communities left searching for answers.
Madison audiences may recognize Dakota Spotlight from Season 10, You Killed Chris: A Friend's Fight for Justice, which explored the unsolved 1968 murder of University of Wisconsin student Christine Rothschild. While Call Me Shelly tells a different story, it reflects the same investigative approach and commitment to thoughtful, respectful storytelling.
This is a one-night-only screening. Tickets are limited.
