Curtis at All Hallows Latvian Music Concert

The world-renowned Curtis Institute of Music continues its 2023-2024 concert series at All Hallows Episcopal Church, Wyncote in March with pianist Kārlis Bukovskis performing music of Latvian composers. The concert is on Saturday, March 16th at 7 PM. Seats may be reserved online at: https://httpscurtisatallhallowsorg.ticketleap.com/latvian/ Admission is free; donations are encouraged. On-street parking is available adjacent to All Hallows Episcopal Church, 262 Bent Road, Wyncote, PA 19095. Kārlis Bukovskis, from Alūksne, Latvia, entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2022 and studies piano with Robert McDonald. All students at Curtis receive merit-based, full-tuition scholarships, and Mr. Bukovskis is the John J. Medveckis Fellow. Mr. Bukovskis has delighted audiences with solo recitals and has won several important competitions, including the Latvian Young Piano National Competition, in which he received the main prize in his age category. He has also participated in concerts and festivals throughout Latvia, Lithuania, Georgia, Russia, and Uzbekistan. In 2015 and 2016, he was awarded the Excellence Award from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia. Mr. Bukovskis has performed piano concertos with various orchestras, including works by Edvard Grieg, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and Sergei Rachmaninoff. He has also participated in several masterclasses with Georgian pianist Eliso Virsaladze and Norwegian virtuoso Leif Ove Andsnes. In addition to his piano studies, he has studied composition and composed several works. In 2021, Mr. Bukovskis created a piece for the Latvian organ music project Doms iedvesmo, dedicated to the organ of the Riga Dome Cathedral. Rev. Chris Exley, Rector at All Hallows Episcopal Church in Wyncote, believes the 2023-2024 Curtis at All Hallows season will build on the storied tradition of music at the church and its connection to the Curtis family. “The musical heritage of All Hallows, that began with its founding in 1891, has grown over the years and our packed houses reflect support not only from the local and church communities but also from the metro-Philadelphia music community. It is evident that with these concerts All Hallows answers a widespread need for a venue where emerging artists can showcase their talent.” For their part, the faculty and students at Curtis welcome the chance to perform in the sanctuary of All Hallows whose exceptional acoustics reflect the skill of Frank Furness, the architect who designed the church. “In keeping with Curtis’s ‘Learn by Doing’ philosophy, the partnership with All Hallows gives Curtis students a perfect opportunity to play a substantial program before appreciative audiences in a setting that evokes tradition while embracing contemporary repertoires,” says Alan Morrison, Haas Charitable Trust Chair in Organ Studies at the Curtis Institute of Music. The 2023-2024 remaining concert schedule includes these three performances: Date Day Time Performers/Concert Description March 16 Saturday 7:00 PM Karlis Bukovskis Latvian Piano Music April 27 Saturday 7:00 PM Daniel Carroll, Organ Concert May 9 Thursday 7:00 PM Curtis Winds Ensemble All concerts will be presented in the church sanctuary.
