CT Historical Society Museum Trip


9:00 a.m. departure from Litchfield Community Center 10:00 -11:30 a.m. Tour and visit at New Britain Museum of American Art for the Edward Burtynsky: Earth Observed Exhibit and time to explore the museum's permanent collection galleries The NBMAA is presenting a large-scale survey featuring the work of acclaimed photographer Edward Burtynsky from November 17, 2022, through April 16, 2023, entitled Edward Burtynsky: Earth Observed. The exhibition will comprise examples from nearly every series of Burtynsky's output from the early 1990s to today and will examine the artist's career-long documentation of human impact on nature and the landscape through manufacturing, mining, shipbreaking, and deforestation. It will represent the first major exhibition of the artist's work in Connecticut and one of the largest in the North East ever, and it will explore topics including climate change, sustainability, and the legacy of American landscape art. 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Enjoy a visit to the museum's gift shop and lunch on your own in the museum Caf? ~ offering a variety of sandwiches, salads, soups and sweets 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. Group will venture onto the CT Historical Society for a tour of the Society's Museum collections. A private, nonprofit, educational organization established in 1825, the Connecticut Historical Society is the state's official historical society and one of the oldest in the nation. The CHS's collection includes more than 4 million manuscripts, graphics, books, artifacts, ephemera and other historical materials accessible at the campus and on loan at other organizations. The CHS collection, programs and exhibits help Connecticut residents connect with each other, have conversations that shape our communities, and make informed decisions based on our past and present. 2:00 - 2:30 p.m. Enjoy some free time and visit CHS gift shop Depart by 2:30 p.m. For return trip to Litchfield Pre- registration and Pre-payment required.
