“Cry It Out” at inD Theatre - 10/27-11/12 at Rolling Bay Hall

Exploring the complexities of modern motherhood and the often unacknowledged struggles that come with it, inD Theatre’s production of “Cry It Out” promises to captivate audiences with its raw emotional power, laugh-out-loud humor and relatable storytelling. The award-winning play by Netflix’s “Maid” creator/showrunner Molly Smith Metzler, directed by Zandi Carlson, runs from Friday, October 27 through Sunday, November 12 at Rolling Bay Hall on Bainbridge Island and is free to attend. Set in a quaint Long Island suburb, "Cry It Out" delves into the lives of four characters, each grappling with the challenges of new parenthood in their unique ways. Through comedy, honesty, and deep introspection, Metzler paints a vivid portrait of the delicate balance between personal aspirations, societal pressures, and the overwhelming love for one's child. “Cry It Out is hilarious, heartbreaking, and completely human,” Carlson remarked. “Molly Smith Metzler has written a play that deftly presents the impossible task of juggling all that comes with new parenthood while navigating gender roles in partnership, career aspirations, personal identity, and our deep need for human connection. Whether you’re a parent or not, the pandemic has given many of us the experience of needing to navigate changes in our professional and/or personal lives, as we've worked to find ways to cope with new and uncharted paths. Audiences will find these characters relatable, truthful, and touching.” "Cry It Out" addresses the issues of postpartum depression, the impact of social class on parenting, and the enduring quest for genuine connections amidst the chaos of early parenthood. With its thought-provoking themes and rich character development, the play invites audiences to reflect on their own experiences and empathize with the struggles faced by the characters on stage. The show features seasoned, professional actors Kim Douthit (Jessie), Erin Gabbard (Lina), Josy Wegner (Adrienne) and Leon Huggins (Mitchell), as well as Kate Pippinger (Understudy). Gabbard most recently appeared locally as Lady Catherine and Lydia in Bainbridge Performing Arts’ staging of Kate Hamill’s “Pride & Prejudice,” also directed by Carlson. Pippinger has performed in numerous area productions, including Elsa in Ovation Musical Theatre’s “Sound of Music,” and will take the stage as Adrienne on Sunday November 5th. Douthit, Wegner and Huggins are performing on Bainbridge Island for the first time. Audiences can expect a powerful blend of laughter, tears, and profound introspection, making "Cry It Out" a must-see production for theatergoers and parents alike. inD Theatre cautions that this play is not for everyone. It contains mature content and language that may not be appropriate for young audiences.
