“Almost every writer you can think of has a Web site, maintained by a fan, a family member, a professional webmaster or a publishing company,” according to an article in the Washington Post by Linton Weeks.
Adds a blog post on Reedsy, an online resource for writers: “Most professional authors will have their own website, both as a way to market themselves and connect with their readership.”
Devitt, who is helping GCWA upgrade its website, promises to demystify the web design process. He’ll also cover maintaining a website once it’s up and running.
The meeting is open to the public. General admission is free for first-time visitors; $5 for subsequent visits, payable via PayPal; and free for members.
Devitt’s information technology career involved working on web-based applications across many industries, including banking, insurance, pharmaceuticals, and the power industry. He currently teaches information technology to Bucks County Community College students. He started his long info tech career with an MS degree in computer science from Villanova University and BS degree from Illinois Institute of Technology. He will be speaking at the meeting via Zoom.
About GCWA
Founded in 1995, the Gulf Coast Writers Association, Inc. (GCWA) provides a forum for fellowship, education, and information for writers, editors and associates. GCWA’s well-regarded annual writing contest draws a wide range of authors. Its recent book launch at the Alliance for the Arts for its new anthology Storm Stories--Hurricane Ian--available on Amazon and at local outlets--was a sell-out event.
Based in Fort Myers, GCWA attracts members from throughout Southwest Florida. At monthly meetings, speakers and workshops offer expert advice on such topics as writing techniques, publishing, and marketing.
Participants at GCWA meetings also have the opportunity to read their works. The literary genres run the gamut from poetry, adult fiction and nonfiction to children’s and young adult, historical fiction, romance, mystery/thriller, memoir, essay and screenplay. Members include full-time writers as well as corporate professionals, teachers, and business owners, working or retired.
