Construction and Dismantling of a Sacred Tibetan Sand Mandala

The Tibetan Monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery return to Material Culture this September 19 - 24 for a very special event. We are honored to once again host their construction and dismantling of a Sacred Tibetan Sand Mandala.

 

The public is invited to join us at our 4700 Wissahickon Avenue location to watch the mandala being created, beginning on Tuesday, September 19 and wrapping up on Sunday, September 24. The mandala's construction will take place from 10 am - 4 pm each day.

 

Additional not-to-be missed events include:

 

Tibetan Cultural Pageant: Saturday, Sept. 23, Noon

Mandala Dismantling: Sunday, Sept. 24, 1pm

 

This event is Free, Open to the Public, with Unlimited Free Parking. Everyone is Welcome, Bring the Kids to witness this beautiful tradition with us!

 

During their stay with us, the Monks' lovely sacred crafts will also be offered for sale. The sale of these items and donations for their ceremonies and events go to funding the monastery in India.

 

Saturday's program will include several elements, like the:

 

Tashi Sholpa (Good Luck Dance)

Chanting Of Jam Chenma (Madyamikavatara)

The Snow Lion Dance

Tibet National Anthem

and more!
