Presented by NXTHVN and organized by Common Practice, this exhibition examines the role and importance of “the park” in the formations of communities. Contributing artists utilize photography, photo collage, and film to explore the impact of basketball as a cultural medium and its capacity for community building. COMMON PRACTICE: Public Access features work from Anwulika Anigbo, Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe, Kevin Couliau, Sue Kwon, Hope Mora, Daniel Ramos, Robin Rhode, Tschabalala Self, Paul Anthony Smith, Ashley Tillery, SHAN Wallace and Kim Weston.
In association with the exhibition, NXTHVN has also sponsored the resurfacing of the basketball courts at Goffe Street Park, corner of Goffe and County Streets in New Haven. Along with the refurbishment, New Haven-based artist, Tschabalala Self, has designed a site-specific mural which has been painted on the courts. The courts are located approximately one block from NXTHVN's building, easily accessible by foot or by car.
