Comic Book/Graphic Novel Storytelling & Illustration Workshop for Teens

Comic book/graphic novel character creation and strange new world-building are at the heart of this summer workshop at the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts (Charter Arts). The workshop is taught by graphic novelist Scott Beatty, who has authored hundreds of adventures for many of comics’ most iconic characters including Batman and Robin tales for DC Comics, as well as The Phantom, Buck Rogers, and Sherlock Holmes for Dynamite Entertainment. Beatty has also contributed comic book stories to IDW Publishing, Dark Horse Comics, and Crossgen Comics. Participants will learn about the history of comic books, how graphic novels are produced, and then you’ll create the secret origin of your own character and chronicle their first adventure in script and art! Participants will get to showcase their creations during a short ‘talk-back’ session, pitching their work just like comics pros, with parents and families on the final day of class! This year's session will also include some illustration instruction. Session dates are July 14-18, 9 AM-12 PM daily. Open to ages 12-17 . This workshop is part of the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts' Summer Academy, a program of arts enrichment workshops that is open to the community. It is a great way to experience outstanding instruction while working with other young artists from the Lehigh Valley in a fun and creative environment.
