Collage Nebraska

“Collage Nebraska,” an exhibit celebrating a wide-ranging art form, runs May 2-26, 2024, at the Hot Shops Art Center, 1301 Nicholas St., Omaha. Artists will host an opening reception 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, May 4 in the gallery. Artist Carol Fettin has made collages for years and has organized artists from across Nebraska to celebrate and consider the art form. “Whether we work in two or three dimensions with paints, photographs, found objects, clay, fiber or trash, we’ll explore the meaning of collage together,” Fettin said. "What makes a piece of artwork a collage?" she asks. "Many artists consider it a deconstruction of existing work or pieces of ephemera — using forgotten, abandoned and discarded papers and objects. The practice of taking these scraps of bits and bobs and reconstructing them into something meaningful is one way to describe collage.” Definitions for collage will vary for each of the artists participating in this show, including those from Cozad, Kearney and Hastings. Viewers can consider questions the works might prompt during the month-long exhibit.
