Mattatuck Museum is thrilled to welcome Dr. Aileen June Wang, Curator at Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art, Kansas State University, and co-curator for Homeward to the Prairie I Come, a powerful Gordon Parks exhibition on view at the Mattatuck celebrating the life and legacy of Gordon Parks. Dr. Wang will travel from Kansas to join the Mattatuck Museum for two special programs on March 5 and 6, offering audiences a unique perspective on Parks’ works and the curatorial process.
Dr. Wang received her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in art history from Rutgers University. Before joining Kansas University, she worked in the art business world and was a professor in art history. Since 2015, her research has evolved toward socially engaged curatorial practices, emphasizing exhibition design, project collaboration, and community engagement. Dr. Aileen Wang will be sharing a unique and insightful behind the scenes perspective of curating the exhibition at events taking place at the Museum on March 6 that you don’t want to miss.

Enjoy two themed cocktails created by a talented bartender from Litchfield Distillery while engaging in a compelling conversation with Dr. Aileen Wang, curator at the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University, and co-curator of the current Gordon Parks' exhibition. Dr. Wang will discuss details on how Parks curated the photographs and the main themes he intended for people to keep in mind, and the significance of his work today. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions and explore the exhibit.
