Pro Arte opens its season in dramatic fashion with conductor Mischa Santora, Music Director of Boston Ballet, and Cuban-American cellist Tommy Mesa. In Jessie Montgomery’s Divided, which Mesa premiered in 2022, a solo cello gives expressive voice to the unsettled individual living in a conflicted society. Camille Saint-Saëns, by casting his dynamic first cello concerto as a single movement, leads the listener on a seamless journey by turns stormy and refined. The concert concludes with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, a work well loved for its intense emotional energy.
