Cie Herve Koubi: What the Day Owes to the Night

In a lyrical, explosive marriage of traditional Sufi dance and contemporary hip-hop, French-Algerian choreographer Herve Koubi, trained both as a medical doctor and dancer, presents What the Day Owes to the Night. Performed primarily by dancers from North Africa with street dance backgrounds, the work traces Koubi's discovery of his Algerian roots through his experience coming of age in contemporary France. With gravity-defying athleticism and mesmerizing grace, the cast of performers weave together a striking of the complex ties that bind us.

Post-performance Q and A hosted by Rashida K. Braggs, Associate Professor of Africana Studies and Faculty Affiliate in Comparative Literature, Faculty Fellow of the Davis Center and the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
