Choral Evensong, Observing Holy Cross Day
Choral Evensong, Observing Holy Cross Day, September 15, 5 p.m. One of the ancient and modern aspects of the Anglican / Episcopal tradition is the beautiful service of Choral Evensong (sung Evening Prayer). This contemplative liturgy is led by a member of the clergy and the choir with hymns sung by the congregation and enhanced with mild hypoallergenic incense. Each includes the Magnificat (Song of Mary), Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon), and an anthem. Incense will be used throughout the service. Incense has been used in religious traditions for centuries especially on feast days. “Let my prayer be set forth in thy sight as incense and let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice.” from Psalm 141 (In person and online.)
