Chicagoland Daylily Society--Small Things Matter
The Chicagoland Daylily Society is proud to announce that we are launching the 2024 speaker series with Nikki Schmith on March 24, 2024. Nikki will be sharing her expertise on Smalls and Miniatures in her presentation, “Small Things Matter.” If you have ever interacted with Nikki, you know her energy and passion for our favorite plant, the daylily. Join us for the energy! There will be a door prize raffle of out-of-print copies of Daylilies: A Fifty-Year Affair donated by our speaker. We will have an incredible assortment of cultivars from Nikki’s garden in the live auction including one of her introductions, H. ‘Fun Bus Wild Ride.’
Nikki Schmith is a past president of the American Daylily Society and continues to serve on committees and as a senior exhibition judge, garden judge and an exhibition clinic instructor. Her garden, located in Worden, Illinois, has a rotating collection of 350 daylily cultivars, hundreds of other perennials and unique container plantings. Her previous Michigan gardens were featured in The Michigan Gardener and she has registered a few unique cultivars. She planted several beds of daylilies in the community park and she maintains her ADS Display Garden. Within Region 2, she served as a local club president, regional president, regional director, and still serves as an Exhibition Judges Liaison. In 2022, she was awarded the Helen Field Fisher Gold Medal for a lifetime of exemplary service to ADS.
Nikki's writing and photography have been featured in regional, national and global publications. She landed the cover of Garden Gate magazine with a photograph of H. 'Strawberry Cream Cupcake' and a multi-page spread. The British Hemerocallis Society features her photography in their Bulletins and Fine Gardening reaches out for her input on daylily pieces. She is working on two new pieces for national publication in 2025.
Professionally, she is in her 25th year as an education specialist at Ford Motor Company, but her "real job" is mothering and loving an amazing, busy family. Nikki likes to integrate technology as a fun gardening tool and likes to share and discover new ways to use your computer and your daylilies together. You can find her at www.agirlandhergarden.com
