This event, which is open to the public, will honor Ashton Lattimore, an author, award-winning journalist and former lawyer. She is a former editor-in-chief and current Board member at Prism, a nonprofit news outlet whose work centers on communities of color. A graduate of Harvard College, Columbia Journalism School, and Harvard Law School, she was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. A New Jersey native, Ashton now lives in suburban Philadelphia with her husband and two sons.
Ashton’s first novel, 'All We Were Promised', tells the story of three Black women in pre-Civil War Philadelphia as seen through the eyes of free and slave women. Her nonfiction writing has also appeared in the Washington Post, Slate, CNN, and Essence.
The program will feature a brunch and discussion of issues faced by the Black free and slave women in Ashton’s historical fiction book, 'All We Were Promised' (Ballantine Books, 2024).
Proceeds from the event will benefit educational programs that focus on the importance of women’s contributions to all segments of American society.
