Cate Newbanks-Hawks &; Susannah Wagner Merritt to Host a Book Signing Henry and the Magical Words
Henry and the Magical Words beautifully illustrates a bobwhite separated from his parents.
Henry is discovered by two children who once lived in the foster care system. By taking Henry
in, the family discovers how important it is to take time to listen to the similarities and
differences of every member of a family. Later, when Henry and his aunt and uncle are reunited,
Henry learns that he can happily belong to more than one family! This story of “belonging” is
sure to touch the heart of those of all ages. We all belong.

About The Author:
Cate Hawks, author, developed this story in honor of children living through the struggle of
finding their place to belong in their world. She has over 30 years of experience working with
families nurturing the feeling of belonging whether they face mental illness or family
separations. Cate has spent her career dedicated to advocating for those who may experience
marginalization or disconnection from their communities and families.
About The Illustrator:
Susannah is a multi-talented artist, who lives with her husband in a log cabin in the woods near
Ashland, Va. She has a son, a daughter, and four grandchildren. She teaches art to children all
around the world. She is an avid plein air artist and creates exquisite precious metal jewelry. Her
works have been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the US and the UK.
