Carlisle Town Band to Present the 37th Annual Grand Sousa Concert

Musicians from across south central Pennsylvania will join to celebrate American music and the legacy of John Philip Sousa, one of the nation’s greatest band leaders and composers, at the 37th Annual Grand Sousa Concert on Sunday, August 3rd, at 6:30 p.m. at the Carlisle Theatre, 40 W. High St., Carlisle. The concert is free and open to the public. The Carlisle Town Band welcomes your generous donations that help pay the costs of hosting the concert, which can be made at the theater on the day of the concert or online at www.carlisleband.org/donate. The concert will present a contemporary interpretation of the style and content of performances by Sousa and his world-renowned concert band. Directed by Guest Conductor Nicole Albright, band director at Chambersburg Area Senior High School, selections will include Sousa’s The Stars and Stripes Forever and I’ve Made My Plans for the Summer, featuring guest soloist David Wenerd on euphonium. Other selections will include English Folksong Suite by Ralph Vaughn Williams; Henry Fillmore’s Courage March; Amazing Grace, arranged by Frank Ticheli; Robert W. Smith’s To The Max (On The Truck), and Salute to the Armed Forces. The Carlisle Town Band traditionally serves as the “host” band, with more than 70 musicians expected to perform. Other bands that will be represented include the Boiling Springs High School Band, Carlisle Brass Band, Carlisle High School Band, Greater Harrisburg Concert Band, Indiana University of Pennsylvania Band, Keystone Band, Marine Band of Allentown, Messiah University Symphonic Winds, New Cumberland Town Band, Penn State University Band, Shippensburg Band, The Singer Band of Mechanicsburg, and West Perry High School Band.
